A DISCUSSION OF REJECTION, for me, begins some of the mind-blowing insight of this book. We've all felt rejection in one form or another, and we have observed (or practiced) life-altering, wounding rejection as we grew up or encountered in marriages (ours, parents or others) or certainly on playgrounds. The book later examines four life-sucking blows: rejection, assault (attack), withdrawal and defensiveness. Only by transforming our damaged soul/heart by God's grace can we recover to a state of calm restfulness that overcomes the chaos we encounter. --Dave's summary - book passage follows:

And rejection, no matter how old one is, is a sword thrust to the soul that has literally killed many. Western culture is, largely unbeknown to itself, a culture of rejection. This is one of the irresistible effects of what is called “modernity,” and it deeply affects the concrete forms Christian institutions take in our time. It seeps into our souls and is a  deadly enemy to spiritual formation in Christ. p. 36 LIFE-CHANGING SOURCE
